Compressed Air technology
Nitrogen Generators
Nitrogen on site, from compressed air.
Schematic section, not to scale
How it works
Nitrogen generators separate nitrogen from compressed air on site, replacing cylinders or bulk liquid for food packaging, laser cutting, electronics and inerting.
Pressure-swing adsorption (PSA) units trap oxygen on carbon molecular sieve; membrane units let oxygen and water pass through hollow fibres faster than nitrogen.
Performance range
Rated by nitrogen flow at a stated purity (for example 95 % to 99.999 %)
Typical industry range. Exact capability is model specific, see each model’s curve.

Advantages & tradeoffs
- No cylinder deliveries
- Purity set to the need
- Runs on plant air
- Needs clean, dry compressed air
- Higher purity means lower output
- Compressor energy
Best applications
Maintenance
Pre-filter elements, valve service, oxygen analyser calibration.
