Vacuum technology
Scroll
Clean, quiet, laboratory to light process.
Schematic section, not to scale
How it works
Scroll vacuum pumps compress gas between a fixed and an orbiting spiral. They are dry, quiet and common in laboratories, analytical instruments and as clean backing pumps.
One scroll orbits against another; gas pockets trapped between them move toward the centre, shrinking and compressing before discharge.
